You're getting married and of course, you want to have the best backgrounds for your Wedding photographs. And maybe you are one of those lucky people that look gorgeous in photographs, but maybe you are like the rest of us, you think you rarely look good in photos, and you invoke the photoshop gods to make your photos look fabulous.

We all dream of exotic locations and sometimes ignore the beauty of the very place we live in. Here in Thunder Bay we have the beauty of Lake Superior, along with many inland lakes. We also have the backdrop of the Nor'Wester Mountains, and the rolling hills of Slate River Valley. Nature makes the best backdrop!

Getting married in the Winter in a Tropical setting in Thunder Bay, Ontario

Conservatory in Winter

Northern Ontario in the winter can be very cold....if you are getting married, you may be thinking about a destination wedding in the Caribbean. There is an alternative which doesn't involve getting on a plane. The Botanical conservatory in Thunder Bay. When I first moved here from the warm Caribbean, The Conservatory was one of the places I frequented, inhaling that tropical air reminded me of Home.

There is an abundance of tropical leafy plants, bamboo, fruit trees, hibiscus, camellia bushes, and more. There are pathways to stroll, benches to sit on, and it's a real pleasure on a cold Winter's day to
visit The Conservatory in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

pointsettias at TBay Conservatory

There are seasonal displays for the Holidays, and while we do have Pointsettias in the Caribbean, they are more of a larger bush planted in the ground with smaller blooms.

Seeing greenery and lush Tropical foilage in the winter is a real treat, and hats off to all of those who fought to keep the Conservatory in Thunder Bay, and raise funds and volunteer at events.  Here is the link to the Friends of the Conservatory Facebook page:  https://www.facebook.com/groups/641839145834700/  .

Ok, so Flowers are an impotant part of a Wedding. How can you afford them? Read on for some ideas. A few blooms in a vase looks lovely.

Potted Muscari plants are great for a Spring wedding.

Amaryllis blooms are so showy, one or 2 stems is all that's needed.

Drama and more drama, please can someone give me a Normal family?

sign University of Virginia

Do you have a close member of your family getting married in the near future? Does it feel like the department of Drama in your Home....? You walk in the door, and ask: how are things? and you get this....I feel like killing myself!!!  You try to remain calm, but on the inside, you're screaming...WHAT NOW? Can I please have a "normal" Family?  In today's world, there is no "Normal."

Birch archway

Are you spending a lot of your time sighing? That is a sure sign that you need to back off, and allow everyone in question to sort out their own affairs. All you want is a calm, peaceful life, which is usually not the case with a Family Wedding. Just like the archway in the above photo, simplicity is what your desire. Reality is that you will be yelled at, You don't care about me! It's my wedding! etc.

red van and high rises

On the surface, everything is under control, and then you get sent across town, to pick up something that isn't ready yet. You're fuming as you have wasted 2 hours in downtown traffic. It's all 'normal' and part of having a Family wedding. The perfect Wedding with no glitches happens on Pinterest. This is real Life. Your Life.

wine bottles

You're tempted to start drinking the Wine you were sent to pick up for the Rehearsal Party.

chocolate cakes

You may also be tempted to stress eat, just give me one of those small chocolate cakes, they're so cute! Chocolate!!

event venue California

We often hear family members say..." We will be so glad when this wedding is over!!" Finally the Wedding day arrives, and everything is wonderful, the weather is great, and all that drama is forgotten.
