 Sometimes the whole arranging a Wedding thing gets to be overwhelming. We get it. And Wedding Flowers can seem equally daunting. So should you just go to the grocery store, and buy some flowers, and DIY? After all, there are many You Tube videos, and it looks easy...., but is it really easy?   

It takes years of practice to do Wedding flowers. As for setting up at a Reception, it is a very time-consuming process. Everything has to work smoothly, if the Banquet staff are late with setting up the tables, then the Florist cannot start decorating. If you are having a simple Garden Wedding, with a few guests, and you have a lot of help from Family and friends, DIY may be a possibility. If you are using fresh flowers, make sure to order what you need well ahead of the date you need it. 

Looking at Pinterest and setting up a Mood board is great, but have you noticed how rare it is that the price of all these wonderful Floral installations is mentioned? If this is your first time ordering wedding flowers, sticker shock will definitely occur.

This is supposed to be the biggest year for Weddings - 2022. Restrictions are lifting after many lockdowns, so now is the time to have your Wedding. How many of you have been putting off your Wedding? 

Masks are going to be with us for a long time, as new variants pop up. It's best to plan your wedding in the Summer, when you can be outside, and not be freezing because of the cold temperatures.  

Ceremonies are smaller now, and that may be a good thing for some families. A smaller gathering forces the guest list to be weeded out, leaving only those who are the most important people in both your lives.

Divorce and shared custody can be a positive .

Sometimes relationships don't work from the get-go, and there is a child involved. At first, you may feel sorry for the child who is caught in the "Daddy's house, Mommy's house" and their life sees like a whirlwind of 2 days here, and a week there, and crying when he or she has to leave the one parent to go to the other. There he is, a tiny human, packsack on back, being carted from 1 home to another.

The current pandemic has definitely reshaped the Wedding industry. Some of you will postpone your Wedding until things return to normal.  At this point, we don't know when that will be. 

A lot of us have a hard time understanding that we can't be in control of everything. We have to practice the concept of surrender - the control you are letting go of is control over something(s) you were never in charge of. 

The traditional large Wedding with many guests, elaborate venues, 5 course meals, and more, is it something we want to return to? Do elaborate Wedding celebrations cause financial anxiety ....will we be able to afford this Wedding? How many couples choose not to get married because they felt they could not give their partner the Wedding of their dreams?

Planning your wedding during these times of uncertainty..., The Camellia, Thunder Bay, Ontario

It's May in Thunder Bay, and in normal times, there would be Spring weddings, and also many of you would be planning to get married during the Summer. However, with Covid-19 and the ban on large social Gatherings, it makes for some difficult Wedding planning. A second wave of Covid may happen in the Fall, so there goes the idea of maybe postponing your Wedding until the Fall. 

It's so difficult when you cannot make plans, as the future is uncertain. We are so used to booking our venue, music, food, and more. 

How can you send out invites when you can't set a date? Everything seems to be on hold.

"We can't wait until this Wedding is over....! " The Camellia, Thunder Bay Wedding Florist

Sometimes in our shop, we've overheard some customers talking to one another...and the conversation goes like this: " We can't wait until this Wedding is over!"  You may have felt this way when called upon to help with someone's Wedding. Weddings have become a huge production.....Engagement parties, Shags,  Stags, Bridal Showers, Rehearsal dinners, after-Wedding Breakfasts, and the list goes on. I'm sure you can add more events to this list. It does become overwhelming for those involved. So how can you prevent things from getting to this point? 

Social media doesn't help....photos of over-the-top-very-expensive-things keep popping up in your feed. You have to keep one important thing in mind..what do both of you want? 

Conflicts arise when others offer you advice....you are fine with 2 floral arrangements at the Reception, your bridesmaid thinks you should have 1 on every table. 

This wedding is about you and your partner-to-be. Your dreams. It's not a good sign when you hear..."We can't wait until this Wedding is over...!" It would all be easy if we all lived in the same town, or we all had holidays for a month leading up to the big event. But that's not real life. We still have to work, take care of children and grandchildren, run errands and do our day-to-day. So if you are hearing this phrase, it's time to step back, take a deep breath, and see what is essential, and what can be changed.

Happy spring! The Camellia, Thunder Bay, Ontario

It's March in Thunder Bay, and it will be  a while before our daffodils start growing, but in the meantime, we can look at cheery pics of our last year's blooms. 

 They are just so bright and springy! 

 Spring flowers are showy and colourful, like this bouquet of muscari, hydrangea, iris and other spring blooms. Are you planning a Spring wedding?  Here at The Camellia in Slate River we design bouquets of faux flowers that look real, but are not fresh. Perfect for Northern Ontario Spring weddings where the weather is unpredictable, warmish one day and freezing the next day. Yesterday it was 12 C, and today the high is 1C.
