Tabletop arrangements, The Camellia, Thunder Bay

Hello there!! Today, I want to share with you some tabletop arrangements I  recently designed. Just look at this colour combination! One can't help but feel happy..!  The springy-ness of the Lime greens, the splash of sherbet orange with the Tropical Amazon Roses, and the creamy whites of the double Tulips. When planning a Wedding, one often forgets about putting a small arrangement in the Salle de Bain.. The size of this design is just right, flowers are placed in a tall Mason jar.

This design  is made with the help of a sisal collar, which helps to keep the stems in place. It is a great design aide, and we sell these at our store.

Look at the colour of the peppermint carnations, against the green hypericum berries, and the white Star of Bethelem.

Hydrangeas  .. loved by most, but so quick to wilt. These flowers need a lot of hydration, so if you are using these in your arrangements, best to have some extra stems on hand, and someone who can go around during the event checking for water levels and replacing stems if needed. I was at a wedding recently where the girls' bouquets were wilting by the time the Reception came around...you really don't want to have this happening .

Ornamental Cabbage, variegated pitt, and gerbera daisies add interest to this design.

This design uses Swiss cheese leaves, and Magnolia foilage, along with white Stargazer lilies.

Faux Tulips are also popular - this is one of our many sample Bouquets you can see when you come into our store. After all, who can order flowers and judge sizes from a photo?

This Bouquet is also faux...... who would know? And the Bride can use this in her home afterwards as a floral centerpiece in a vase.

Why NOT to order your Wedding Flowers from the same place you buy your meat.

Sometimes, when you're on a Budget, you might be led towards ordering your Wedding Flowers from your local Grocery store. The same place that you get your milk, eggs, and meats.

Questions to ask before you do this:

- Who will be ordering the specific Flowers and colours)  I need for my Wedding?

- Who will be designing my Flowers? Is the Designer a professionally trained Florist? e.g. Hydrangeas are a popular flower for Weddings, they need enormous amounts of hydration to prevent wilting, if the designer has placed them in Oasis foam, they may be wilting by the morning of the Wedding...

- Where will the Flowers be stored, once they are made up? ( most Grocery stores do not have a cooler which is set aside for Flowers. This means your boxes will be sitting in the Flower aisle overnight, and if the store is open 24 hours, well... hopefully no-one trips over your boxes, or dumps a shipment on them.

- who will be delivering the Flowers and doing any necessary set-up?

Everything in Life is a Learning experience...you just don't want to have that learning experience on your Wedding Day!

Photos by the beach, The Camellia, Thunder Bay

Getting married on the Beach is one alternative to consider. The photos following were taken in the Dominican Republic. Lots of lush, tropical vegetation.

The Beaches are superb, the sand is like fine sugar.

 Massage  huts along the beach.

Lots of water coconuts around..Yum..! so many tropical leaves to choose from..!

Wedding ceremonies are held right on the Beach, this one was not very private. If you are planning a Wedding on the Beach, make sure the area is roped off , so you can have some privacy.

Pick a Tropical, brightly coloured Bouquet such as this one, of Gerberas, statice, and orchids.

Stylin' a Country Bouquet, the Camellia, Thunder Bay

Let' say you're getting married in the country, but your Partner-to be is allergic to Flowers  ....what's a person to do ?

You can use a bouquet of faux botanical flowers, then add various fresh greens to the bouquet, which is what I did in the bouquet in the photo.

No-one will know the flowers aren't real, and your partner will not be sneezing.

DIY Ruffled Burlap Head tablecloth, Camellia's, Thunder Bay

After viewing Rachael Ashwell's lovely ruffled tablecolths, I started dreaming of making one myself. I was pretty sure it was" one of those lovely to look at, but challenging" to make  kind of projects.

Hmm.. what type of burlap to use..the type sold at Co-Ops and landscape supply stores which is cheaper, softer, and more of an open weave?
Or the more expensive Burlap sold in Fabric stores with a tighter weave and more stiffness?
In retrospect the landscape type would have ruffled better, but with the looser weave, we would have to use a backing fabric exactly the same colour as the burlap.

Lots of thinking along the way.

Not a project for a person with little patience! Thanks to my friend and client Lauren who gave us much of the insights into this project...she was making this tablecloth for the Head table for her son's Weddding Reception.

The ruffled burlap was too thick to get stitched with a regular Sewing machine...so she ended up hand basting the ruffles on in parts, and using stickon velcro to attach the ruffle to the cloth. Or you could use an industrial sewing machine instead.

I love the look of this, what do you think?

I'm just making these vintage Paper flowers, they go really well with the burlap.
