Everything you need to know when visiting your Wedding Florist

So you're getting married, and having never ordered Wedding flowers before, you get to the Florist and gasp at what your Floral vision is actually going to cost. Why? The problem with Pinterest is they actually don't tell you what those fabulous florals cost. If you are in Cali or in Holland close to where the flowers are grown, flowers are going to be cheaper. Here in Northwestern Ontario, all our flowers are brought in from wholesalers. There are some greenhouses in Southern Ontario that grow flowers, then product has to get trucked here, or gasp, flown here.  Let's say you love Peonies, which grow beautifully here, The problem is we can't predict our weather here, that the peonies will bloom around the day of your Wedding.

Feel free to make an appointment to discuss your Wedding Floral vision with us here at The Camellia. 30 Hacquoil Rd. Slate River, On. Open Wednesday through Sunday, 12-5p.

A February Lavender Wedding - in Thunder Bay.

Thunder Bay is blessed with lots of sunshine, and crisp, cold days in February. while some Brides opt for Destination Weddings  on a Caribbean beach, some brave the cold in Northwestern Ontario. How cold is cold? -37 with the Windchill, gasp...! This Wedding will take place at This Old Barn.

Tying the knot in the dead of Winter poses a weather challenge for Flowers - if you use fresh flowers, and it's minus 30, they will freeze, and if white flowers were used, they will turn a dismal shade of brown. This Bride knew she wanted Lavender in all the bouquets, here at #TheCamellia we have farm Lavender grown on Vancouver Island.

Boutonierres for the Boys, #Lavender with dogwood blossom, tied with jute.

Lavender with Freesia for the Groom.

Lavender bouquets for the Bridesmaids framed by blue twigs, and faux grasses.

The Bride's bouquet with Lavender and foam Roses, with faux purple blossoms, tied with jute twine. The Bride wanted the look and feel of a bundle of  just gathered Wildflowers.

A wee hairpiece for a 3 year old.

Corsages for Mums and Grandmothers, again all made with realistic looking faux blooms.

Thinking of having Lavender Bouquets for your Wedding?  Lavender smells wonderful and as an added bonus, helps you to stay calm and collected on your big Day!

Ceremony Wreaths look lovely, with faux Hydrangeas, lilacs, and white tulips. You can purchase this Spring wreath at the Camellia.

Big Wedding Design with small amount of Blooms

Well, it's a New Year and those of you who are getting married this Year are in the midst of planning, and pinning images to Pinterest. What Pinterest fails to show you is the amount of material and labour that goes into designing Wedding Flowers.

Here is a Bridal Bouquet from one of our Weddings from last Summer.

Want flowering Blossoms...easy enough if your Wedding happens to coincide with Spring and blooming apple trees in Northwestern Ontario... If you have to order these in, they will be  quite expensive.

Here is one of our ceremony flower designs, done in a free spirited Garden Look.

If you want lots of impact using just a few blooms, watch this Video, using Anthuriums, Anthuriums are last-lasting blooms.

Why do Wedding Flowers cost so much?

It's the start of a new year - 2016, and most couples start planning their Wedding celebrations now. One question Brides may ask is " What goes into making a Wedding bouquet, this looks simple, I can probably throw that together myself...?!!!!

Take a look at this beautiful Tulip Pave design from Mayhesh, note the mechanics and tools needed to come up with the end design. Click on the link:
